Studio of creation and laboratory of associative dreaming.
The term atlas traditionally refers to a collection of maps depicting certain areas. Our ATLAS is such a collection of specific areas within the gallery, which may often be invisible: a café, workspaces, library, relaxation areas, spaces for movement and tranquility, lectures, workshops, or game rooms. The gallery also has such faces. ATLAS is a Workshop of Creation and a Laboratory of Associative Dreaming. The space can be found on the gallery level of the architecturally extraordinary Small Hall of the Trade Fair Palace. The individual zones of ATLAS are freely interconnected and also offer views inside and outside the palace. ATLAS is furnished with custom furniture according to the project of the No Architects studio - Daniela Baráčková and Jakub Filip Novák. The graphic design was processed by Anežka Minaříková and Marek Nedelka. The individual areas are complemented by works of contemporary artists: Andrea Kaňkovská, Eva Koťátková, Kristina Fingerland, Anna Hulačová, Kundy Crew, Marie Lukáčová, Marie Tučková, and from the organization Elpida: Marie Čížková, Marie Horynová, Marie Hrobařová, Anna Kolešová, Jaroslava Lomnická, Pavla Nelibová, Anna Paráková, Dana Píšová, Pavla Tůmová, as well as Tomáš Vaněk and participating public. ATLAS is a new environment where you can repeatedly and freely return, it can be a background for your visits and inspiration by art, as well as a place for creation and relaxation. In the coming years, the environment of ATLAS will be complemented by short-term or permanent entries of contemporary artists who will also participate in public programs for all age groups. In their activities, they will reflect their artistic practice, but will also relate to the extensive collection exhibitions of art from the 19th century to the present at the Trade Fair Palace. They will create a dialogue between contemporary and past art, as well as a critical interpretation of collections through the prism of the present, supporting free dialogue. The space is not only a venue for programs initiated by the National Gallery in Prague and its educators, but also for activities organized by visitors themselves. ATLAS creates a space for fulfilling the function of a community-oriented museum, thus subscribing to the new definition of the museum by ICOM, which, in addition to the traditional roles of collecting, caring for, and exhibiting art, also emphasizes interpretation and community support.
