Easter is the most significant holiday of the Christian church. It is associated with the commemoration of the passion and resurrection of Christ. Generally, these holidays have become popular in our culture and are celebrated as the arrival and welcoming of spring. Historically, the date of the Easter period has been established since about the 6th century as the period after the spring equinox (March 21) and falls on the Sunday after the first spring full moon. Generally, it can be said that this Sunday falls within the date range from March 22 to April 25. Easter was also celebrated in pre-Christian times. As significant and already religiously organized holidays, Easter first appeared among the Jews. They were the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Passover; in Hebrew, Pesach = passing over, sparing) celebrated in remembrance of the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. They commemorated the Lord's mercy when, during the slaughter of the firstborn in Egypt, He passed over the houses of the Jews marked with the blood of the lamb. The holiday was always celebrated on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan. The name Easter originated from the so-called "Great Night." On this night from Saturday to Sunday, the miracle of the "resurrection" of Jesus Christ occurred. Very few historical sources about this event have survived, and none of them specify the exact date. The Easter itself is preceded by a forty-day fasting period.
