Open Forests Day, 4th edition of the event for non-state forest owners.
Anyone can go into the forest at any time. But the day when the owners of municipal, private, and church forests personally "open" their forests to you through a public event… Such a day is unique! The next date is Saturday, May 17, 2025. Make time for the "Open Forest Day" event, which is traditionally organized by SVOL with its members. You will meet the people who own your favorite forest, take care of it, and manage it. Various locations across the country will have guided walks in the forest, demonstrations of forestry work, reforestation, forest education, and at larger estates, there will often be refreshments, competitions for children, or other activities. Do you know how long it takes for a tree to grow before you can sit in its shade? Do you have an idea of what it takes to grow a tree from a seedling and care for it for several decades before its wood serves us, for example, in building a house? How much oxygen does a single tree produce in a year? What exactly does a forest do to ensure we have enough water? What will forests look like when future generations walk through them or gather mushrooms? What is the difference between a forester and a hunter? Come to the Open Forest Day event, where you will learn all this (and much more).
What can you look forward to? For children, there will be educational trails with forest themes, where they will learn, among other things, how much the forest provides for society and that this is only possible thanks to proper sustainable management. You can also look forward to demonstrations of work with heavy machinery and horses, training of birds of prey, or meetings with foresters who will show you examples of their work (from planting trees to caring for them and harvesting). You will have the opportunity to make things from wood and forest fruits and taste local delicacies.
The program of the event will vary at different locations, but it will be worth it everywhere. The common goal remains the same – to show you why it is necessary to manage forests and how individual owners approach this. You will spend beautiful moments directly in "your" favorite forest. You can talk to the forest owner about everything that interests you regarding forest care, and you will even have the chance to try some forestry activities yourself. Come to do something for nature and at the same time show children how to behave towards and in the forest.
