Come to the HW Lab on Saturday, January 18th to fix your electronics, toys, textiles, or household items!
Repair Café is an event where, together with experienced masters, we repair items that might otherwise end up in a recycling center, landfill, or remain forever in a basement or at the bottom of a drawer. In the HW Lab, experienced repairers will be waiting for you to guide you through the repair – so we don't just bring items to Repair Café to be fixed like at a repair shop, but we actively participate in the repair process. This way, we gain direct experience in whether an item can or cannot be repaired, what is and isn't safe to fix on your own, what typical problems are with a specific appliance or item, and what the various possible methods of repair are. Of course, we will also involve technologies available in the HW Lab, such as 3D scanners and 3D printers or lasers for producing spare parts and prosthetics. By repairing things ourselves, we expand our knowledge of engineering while also extending the lifespan of consumer goods, which is a key aspect of a circular economy. The event also includes homemade refreshments, which you can either use to reward the master for their help or just nibble on if you get hungry during the repair. The event is free, and refreshments are available for a voluntary contribution.
