The MERKÁDO festival will transform the Holešovice market into Latin America on May 30-31, 2025. This year’s 12th edition of the festival will offer Latino markets, a children’s cultural program, and a drum parade in the rhythm of samba.
Merkádo is mainly about dance, music, and Latin American markets featuring exotic food and products from Latin American countries. The festival will showcase around fifty stalls with typical products – from cocoa, chili, and exotic fruits to original textiles, jewelry, and other products from artisans from South and Central America. You can look forward to traditional dishes prepared by Latin Americans living in the Czech Republic, complemented by selected Latino restaurants and bars. Merkádo offers a unique opportunity to taste dishes from Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, or Mexico.
The cultural program will be highlighted by a grand parade of masks and Brazilian drums on Saturday, led by Tam Tam Batucada, which will march from the Štvanická footbridge to the Holešovice market at 5 PM. On Friday, Mexican musicians Mariachi Azteca de Praga will perform. The accompanying program will include playful Spanish lessons, coffee tasting, speed dating in Spanish, and an evening salsa party with selected Latino DJs. For children, there will be a Mexican piñata filled with sweets every day, children's art workshops, face painting, Spanish reading sessions, and other activities.
Visitors will taste steak from the Argentine parrilla grill, Chilean pastel del choclo, Colombian empanadas, Peruvian anticuchos, or Mexican tacos. Selected bars will offer typical regional spirits: Mexican mezcal, Brazilian cachaça, Cuban rum, and a wide range of South American wines from Peru, Chile, and Argentina. Seating will be provided at the festival venue.

The Austrian electronic duo Kruder & Dorfmeister, creators of the iconic compilation from the late 90s The K&D Sessions, which sold millions of copies worldwide, is heading to Prague. While techno was developing in the Vienna scene at the same time, Kruder & Dorfmeister drew from calmer rhythms, 80s dance music, hip hop, breakbeat, and nu jazz. In a special performance with a band, attendees of Mladí ladí jazz will hear it on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the release of this compilation. British producer and singer Harvey Causon, one of the most interesting voices of the contemporary British electronic scene, is coming to Prague for the first time on April 25 to present his debut album Square Breath. The evening will open with the local audiovisual project Bariel AV, which recently released the album Life is One of the Hardest. Both artists share a sense of atmosphere, a desire for musical experimentation, and a deeply personal approach to creation.

On Saturday, April 12, a year will pass since the birth of Gaia. The name was chosen and bestowed upon the second offspring of the lowland gorilla in the Dja Reserve pavilion last year by the world-renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall. Gaia is a resilient young gorilla at just under a year old, who most often plays with her three-month-older sister Mobi. Celebrations at the Dja Reserve will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Gaia receiving her gift at 3 p.m.
