The story of how Andy Warhol, the son of Slovak immigrants in the USA, became an icon of the 20th century and joined the ranks of a few personalities who had a global impact and completely changed the perception of art. His life story is fascinating; from a perpetually sickly boy living in a Slavic ghetto in Pittsburgh, he became one of the most influential artists of all time – among the personalities he collaborated with were Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Mick Jagger, and Liz Taylor, among others. How did he manage to reach the pinnacle of the art world, and what influenced his work the most? Little is known about the significant influence that Rusyn culture had on his work, particularly the deep faith in God that he turned to until his death. The first part of the film, however, goes back to the distant past when hundreds of men and women left the poor regions of Transcarpathian Rus and eastern Slovakia in search of work in America and other parts of the world. Among them were Ondřej Varchola and his wife Julie, the future parents of Andy Warhol. They knew that they would not achieve the American dream, but they dedicated their entire lives to building better conditions for their son, who thus had the doors to the world of art opened to him at a young age.
