Damaged cycling routes in Central Bohemia

High summer temperatures are slowly being replaced by colored leaves on trees, the smell of mushrooms in the forest, and a significantly more pleasant climate. In short, it's the perfect time to go cycling somewhere other than just by the water. In Central Bohemia, you can find countless cycling routes, but let's now focus on those without hills and with minimal elevation gain.

Through the village to the spa

When you hear Polabí, most cyclists think of the Elbe Cycle Route. However, this area also offers other cycling routes that are worth exploring. For example, the route from Pečky to Poděbrady is 14 kilometers long with a modest elevation gain of 0 meters. From Pečky, head north towards the village of Kostelní Lhota. This village may have a common name, but its recent history is anything but common. It has been named Village of the Year several times and regularly ranks in European competitions! From Kostelní Lhota, continue straight east. Along the way, you will pass through other Lhotas, first Písková and then Přední. Just before Poděbrady, you will ride through the Obora forest park, turn right towards the local weir, and cross the Elbe River on a newly reconstructed footbridge. At the destination, you can refresh yourself with a variety of springs, take a walk in the spa park, or visit the Polabí Museum.

Czech Holland and three castles

In the surroundings of Lužec nad Vltavou, you will feel almost like in Holland. You won't come across windmills or tulips here, but this region will definitely remind you of Vraňany - the Hořín Canal and, above all, the absence of any hills. A good starting point for your ride is the town of Mělník, where you can plan your route. At the Mělník Castle, above the vineyards, there is a spot overlooking the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers, as well as a large part of Czech Holland. From the castle, head first to the village of Hořín and then follow the Vltava cycle route, which will take you to Veltrusy Castle. Here, you can participate in a so-called cycling tour by prior arrangement, where you will explore the landscape park, small pavilions, or bridges over the Mlýnský stream. The last stop on the 23 km long route will be the nearby Nelahozeves Castle with its numerous art collections. It is also worth visiting the newly opened Antonín Dvořák Birthplace.

Winter in Vsetín – mountain hotel Vsacký Cáb and Nordic ski center

In the western part of the Beskids, between the Rožnov and Vsetín Bečva rivers, in the midst of the mountainous Wallachia, lies the picturesque area of Vsacký Cáb with its namesake cottage at an elevation of 842 m above sea level.

Enjoy winter with the Museum of the Valašsko Region.

The monument from the 17th century, due to its location above the city center, is one of the dominant features of Vsetín. When visiting, don't miss the Templar cellar with the knight's gaming room or the Aquarium of the Bečva River, which is part of the natural science exhibition in the tower. The castle is attracting visitors at the turn of the year 2024-25 with exhibitions like the Museum of the Century, Glass Fish Created, and Inspiration from Indigo Printing. Public programs invite you to Advent Magic on Sunday, December 8, Spring Break with the museum (February 25-28), and the Castle Carnival (March 2).
