“Kruder and Dorfmeister were among the most prominent names in downtempo electronic music of the nineties and the noughties. The album K&Đ Sessions became, without exaggeration, a cult classic, loved by fans not only of all the remixed artists but also by UNKLE and DJ Shadow, for example. And it remains a cult classic to this day, as evidenced by the enormous interest in the concert performances of this album in the current international tour, of which Prague is a part,” comments Jan Gregar, director of the Nerudný fest, which organizes Mladí ladí jazz.
Madonna and Depeche Mode benefited from remixes
The Austrian duo of producers and DJs Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister have been creating and performing since the 90s under the name Kruder & Dorfmeister. They made their mark with their first album G-Stoned, which was notable for significant influences from afro-jazz and the work of Pink Floyd from the 60s and 70s. They have a total of 10 albums and 2 compilations to their name, in which they do not set genre boundaries. From the beginning, they have aimed to create a very distinctive sound, where fitting into genre categories is secondary, but in their work, you will primarily hear downtempo electronic music, breakbeat, and hip hop with jazz elements. They are also known for the way they approach remixing tracks, with famous remixes of songs by Madonna and Depeche Mode, for example. “We have never used anything from the original tracks except for the vocals, around which we wrote an entirely new piece. That’s why we also feel that this album is more ours than a remix compilation,” says Peter Kruder.
Jazz, rap, and electronics
Kruder & Dorfmeister are returning to Prague after eight years and are the first announced name in the autumn series of Mladí ladí jazz in 2025. “We will gradually reveal the entire program of the seventeenth edition of Mladí ladí jazz. In its composition, it is key for us to represent jazz in its various forms and positions – including overlaps into electronics, rap, and more classical music,” adds Gregar. Last year, Mladí ladí jazz invited, for example, Oscar-winning Gustavo Santaolalla, Canadian saxophonist Colin Stetson, and British discovery Blue Lab Beats.
