The construction was initiated in 1985 and completed in 1992. The tower was primarily built as a transmitter for television and radio signals, however, its design and location sparked a lot of controversy at that time. Architect Václav Aulický and structural engineer Jiří Kozák created a structure that is an unusual combination of technical functionality and avant-garde design. The tower is composed of three steel tubes, one of which carries observation platforms and restaurant facilities, while the other two serve technological purposes.
Babies
One of the most distinctive features of the Žižkov Tower is the installation of the "Babies" sculptures by Czech artist David Černý, which were added in 2000. Ten giant bronze babies crawling up and down the tower give the structure an unusual and playful character, making the tower even more popular and iconic.
Observation Cabins
The main attraction for visitors are the three observation cabins located at a height of 93 meters. From these glass spaces, you can admire panoramic views of Prague and its surroundings. On a clear day, it is possible to see up to a distance of 100 kilometers, making this tower one of the best observation spots. The viewpoints are equipped with informational panels to help you identify significant Prague landmarks.
Restaurant and Apartment
The tower also houses a luxurious restaurant and bar offering excellent gastronomic experiences. For those seeking an absolutely exceptional experience, the Žižkov Tower also offers the option of accommodation in a luxury apartment. This apartment is located at a height of 70 meters and offers a 360-degree view of the metropolis.
Surrounding the tower is Mahler Gardens, which is an ideal place for relaxation and walks.
